Definitely going to blog more about anything and everything that can worry someone about leaving FSC.

Its hard being 888 mules away but soooo much spiritual growing and maturing is being done.

Who did you intern with when you were here?

God bless,
CynthiaCynthiaENavarrohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17290534322742481187noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7244743707288626319.post-17994428382850552212012-02-01T13:42:10.000-08:002012-02-01T13:42:10.000-08:00Hey Melissa,
How are you? I am a Communication ma...Hey Melissa,

How are you? I am a Communication major as well! So cool, & Philosophy minor. Wish I would have added that Political Science minor.

I didn't know anyone before coming to D.C. Don't have any friends or family that live out here either. The closest friends live in NY and NJ. It did worry me a little but I tricked myself into realizing that this would be the experience of a lifetime. It is like starting all over again with a clean slate. It is really liberating and in the last ten days that I have been here I feel like a lot of maturing has occurred. Not having my car here or friends in the area forced me to learn how to navigate the metro train system, use a map, talk and network with others, and trust my intuition when it comes to deciding where to go, who to talk to, how to talk, etc.

Don't let that hold you back. You will make a ton of friends! I am rather quiet, sort of a loner. LOL I like to think I just prefer to be still and in silence most of the day. But I still manage to make some friends. A lot of interns are experiencing the same thing so everyone is eager to talk and get to know each other. a& you will have a roommate. Either one or three depending on your living arrangement.

There are people here in the Washington Center interning from China, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and from all over the nation.

I made sure to get everyone's address before I left and have lots of pen pals now. Feels good to write letters and mail them out like a big girl, LOL.I was telling Wesley in his post that it would really help if you began to get things ready now. Make lists of the things you will need, start preparing your things early, look up places you would like to visit once you are here, and get excitedddd. :-)

Your parents can always mail you things once you are settled in the apartment. The third day here my mom sent me a 40 pound box of cereals, cans, coups, mac & cheese, cookies, and lots of other yummy foods.

No worries.

I am going to post more blogs about travel arrangements, how it is to shop here, where to shop, how to use the metro. Hope it all helps.

God bless you,
CynthiaCynthiaENavarrohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17290534322742481187noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7244743707288626319.post-25737960997934009872012-02-01T13:21:10.296-08:002012-02-01T13:21:10.296-08:00Hi, Wesley,
Congratulations on your internship wi...Hi, Wesley,

Congratulations on your internship with Congressman Posey. What a unique opportunity, you must be super excited!! About the voice that keeps telling you not to go, don't listen to it! Sometimes we can be our own worst enemy. I was very doubtful about coming too. It took me six months to make up my mind- but I am confident I made the right decision. Would of definitely regretted not coming.

I would advise to start preparing everything now. Start making lists of everything you are going to need while being over here.Start saving money and start purchasing little things here and there. Don't leave everything for last minute. VERY stressful. Start getting friends and family member's addresses so you can have pen pals. :-)

Get excited! I promise you that you are going to love love LOVE your adventure. Nothing to worry about. Something else that may help is researching the district, make a list of places you want to visit when you are out here.

Are you going to stay at The Washington Center? They really do spoil us here.

Hope this helps,
Cynthia Navarro

God bless you, do not be anxious.CynthiaENavarrohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17290534322742481187noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7244743707288626319.post-15469518498668406812012-02-01T08:16:36.153-08:002012-02-01T08:16:36.153-08:00Hey Cynthia,

I'm a Comm Major and I'm minoring in Political Science :) Do you know anyone else that is in DC on and internship or that lives near there? I feel like I would be worried about not having any family or friends in the area incase I needed something... I was just wondering if that was something that crossed your mind when you finally made the decision.Melissa Buckleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14083728888692386915noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7244743707288626319.post-852746251225614252012-02-01T05:57:23.673-08:002012-02-01T05:57:23.673-08:00Hi, my name is Wes and I am in Dr. Anderson's ...Hi, my name is Wes and I am in Dr. Anderson's Political Parties and Interest Groups class. Over the summer I will be taking on a Washington internship with Congressman Bill Posey, so may of the anxiety you talked about I am going through as well. My question is how would you suggest I get over that voice that keeps telling me not to go?
It looks like you're having a blast and I can't wait to experience first-hand Washington politics! Thanks!

-Wesley DavisAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
